Environmental Consequences Of Increasing Food, Fibre And Fuel Supply
Land and water resources are finite. Rising populations, increasing urbanisation and the spread of democracy, fuelled by economic growth, education, raised aspirations and lengthened life expectation, will increase and diversify demands for food, fibre and other goods and services. The demand for living space, infrastructure, energy and other land based services will also rise, so also will the pressure on water-based goods and services. Globalisation in trade, information, media, tourism and labour is here to stay. Environmental degradation is of growing public concern and the subject of a growing number of international agreements.
