Family Farmer Enjoys Biotechnology Benefits
.

Donna Winters, grandmother and third-generation family farmer in Lake Providence, La., knows first-hand the improvements that biotechnology has brought to her farm.

"We used to spray our cotton fields with pesticides 8 to 10 times each season to fight bollworms," Winters says.  "But last year we planted biotech cotton and we didn't have to spray for bollworms at all."

Less spraying has meant more than lower costs and added convenience for Donna Winters.  "We've seen a dramatic return of wildlife on the farm since we started growing biotech crops.  For example, the quail on our farm had disappeared 20 years ago and we're so excited because now they're coming back."
