Value Added Services introduced in Punjab

INET:-
It is a packet switched public data networks which can provide high speed connectivity between computers/terminals. Inet being a packet switched public data network, offers several advantages over other modes of data communications.

Fast Call Set Up :- Calls are established in Inet within 1 to 2 secs. Making it particularly suitable for online applications are Credit Card Verification etc.

Error-free Data Transfer :- Data from one customer premise to the other is transferred virtually error free (BER better than 1 in 10).

Multiplexed Connection :- X25 connection enables multiple calls to the handled simultaneously, on a single connection to the inet. This matches with the capabilities and requirements of multi user computer systems such as Public Data-base systems and Corporate Management systems etc.
 
Low-cost Data Transfer :- The cost of exchange of data within the country and abroad through inet is the lowest amongst the different alternatives. These changes are also independent of distance i.e. they are the same from anywhere within the country.

International Access :- Inet is connected both ways to all important data networks in other countries. Data Network identification Code (DNIC) of inet for access for networks and data base facilities offered by the international networks.

Gateways :- Inet Phase II will have both way connectivity to Remote Area Business Message Network (RABMN), High Speed VSAT Network (HYNET). Gateway Packet Switching system (GPSS), Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN),, Internet and the ISDN of the Department of Telecommunications.

Internet:-
It is a global network with the help of which we can connect two computers in different parts of the world and valuable information can be accessed. The internet service is working in Chandigarh.

Paging:-
Paging service is available in all the cities of Punjab through companies licensed by the Deptt. of Telecom. Companies operating in Amritsar- ABC Communications, Beltron & Punwire, Chandigarh- Modipage, Maxpage and Easy Call, Ludhiana-Maxpage, ABC Communications & Beltron and Rest of Punjab-Punwire & Modipage.

ISDN (Integrated services Digital Network):-
It has emerged as a powerful tool worldwide for provisioning of different services-Voice. Data and image transmission, over the single telephone line through the telephone network. In ISDN, subscriber's voice, data, image or a combination thereof are sent and received in the digital for, right from the subscribers premises hence high quality of service.

Cellular Mobile communications service is operating in Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. At present service is operating by Modicom in the name of spice telecom. License has also been given to JT Mobile , this service in the name of ESSAR has been launched in Chandigarh and is being launched in other cities of Punjab.

National Internet Backbone (NIB) 

BSNL is an Internet service provider, providing Internet service throughout the entire country except in New Delhi and Mumbai, under the brand name of  " Sanchar net". Sancharnet provides free all India roaming and enables it's users to access their accounts, using the same access code (172233) and user ID from any where in the Country.  It has a customer base of more than 3.5 lakh subscribers. In order to make Internet available through out the length and breadth of the Country  Internet Dhabas are being commissioned at all the Block Headquarters.  Major Internet nodes in Punjab have been set up at the following locations by BSNL:  s

BSNL internet service offers flexible options of access plans for PSTN dial-up in six slabs of 25,50,100, 200, 500 and 1,000 hours. It has an ISDN dial up package of 100, 500 and 1,000 hrs. In order to live up to it's promise of being affordable, BSNL has determined a tariff structure that won't pinch your pocket. In fact access charges of BSNL for Internet services are the lowest in the Country.

BSNL has recently introduced DIAS in select cities of the Country. The DIAS offers a wire-line solution for high speed symmetrical Internet access on the existing telephone lines. It provides an "always on" internet access that is permanently available at customer's premises. DIAS combines voice and internet data packets on a single twisted pair wire at subscriber premises

Duration based Dialup Internet Service (CLI based) is a unique method providing Internet service in which the Customer can access the Internet service from any telephone through dial up. The service allows automatic registration on first LOGIN. The authentication will be based on CLI of the telephone with the password supplied by the caller. The charging is totally usage based and the service is a post paid service like normal PSTN. The billing will be separate based on the duration of use and will be charged to telephone bill (CLI based) as Internet access charge at the prescribed rate.
