Sikhism : Religion or a Sect?
Recently RSS Chief K. Sudarshan while participating in the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat (Sangat) Convention in Amritsar said that Sikhism is a sect of Hinduism, Khalsa is a part of mainstream Hinduism and that Sikhism was created to protect Hinduism from Mughal tyranny. Many a Sikh organizations undertook protest march against Sudarshan and pointed out that Sikhism is a religion in its own right and that they will not tolerate RSS efforts to undermine their separate Sikh identity.

The Khalsa Panth is Born
Gobind's early grasp (at the age of nine) of the concept of martyrdom in defence of man's essential freedoms - the right to life, to religious beliefs, and to ideals and principles served him well through the dangerous years ahead. He was clear that the upper-caste Hindu customs had no place in the Sikh faith, but had nevertheless to be respected since countless Hindus venerated them.

Singh Sabha Movement (early 1900's)
After the Nirankari and Namdhari movements of 19th Century. Fresh century was about to be started with a new movement called Singh Sabha. Nirankari and Namdhari movements had failed to stir Sikh people because of their restricted scope and schismatic character they acquired. To quote Sardar Harbans Singh in The heritage of the Sikhs "The Singh Sabha which followed them had a much deeper impact. It influenced the entire Sikh Community and reoriented its outlook and spirit.

The Sikh confedracies
After thousands of years of subjugation and humiliation. Punjabis were awakened by Guru Gobind Singh. First Banda Singh Bahadur destroyed the Mughal administration, then Nawab Kapur Singh won over the Punjabi country freeing it from the persecution of Mughal and other feudal Zamindars.

Guru Nanak In Maharashtra
I had the good luck to be connected with Maharashtra for over seven years in various capacities. During my stay in Maharashtra I have been able to visit almost every part of the state, and was astonished and pleased to find the Name of Guru Nanak in many parts, even in the remote areas.

Religion Of Humanity
Religion came into existence as a uniting factor of the mankind, introduced by the prophets and messengers of God, for human values in different parts and different races of the world.

Saka Tarn Taran
A religious gathering was held at Akal Takht, Amritsar on 15th-16th November 1920 A.D. In this a committee of one hundred and seventy-five members was formed which was named Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee.

Saka Punja Sahib
On the 8th August, 1922 A.D., the police arrested five Singhs for cutting Acacia wood for langar (community kitchen) from uncultivated land attached to Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh. Everyone was sentenced to a fine of rupees fifty and mprlsonment for six months on charge of stealing wood from the land of the Vlahant.

Saka Nankana Sahib
In October 1920 A.D., a congregation was held at Dharowal, District Sheikhupura for reform in Gurdwara Nankana Sahib in which the leaders revealed to the gathering of devotees, the misdeeds being committed inside the Gurdwara. Gurdwara Nankana sahib was highly revered as it is the birth place of Guru Nanak, a city named Nankana Sahib came up around the Gurdwara which is now in Pakistan.

Dignity of The Human Person in Sikhism
Diverse faiths and religions have come into different parts of the world, their belief systems and scriptures in relevant languages. One thing common to all religions is that their code of conduct is coined for their followers according to specific geographical, social, spiritual and political requirements at that period of time.

Religion and Politics - A Dangerous Mix
Why has religion become such an important campaign issue all of a sudden? Is it because the presidential race is so boring and devoid of real meaning that the political analysts needed some controversy? It certainly hasn’t been an issue upon which to differentiate between the two major party candidates.
