Employment Pass



To work in Singapore, you require an employment pass or a work permit. To apply for one, you need a local sponsor, which is usually the company that is employing you. Also, you need to be under 50 years of age. The pass is first issued for upto two years and can then be extended upto three years.

There are two different employment passes - 

  • Employment Pass P 

  • Employment Pass Q.

Employment Pass P

It applies to those who hold professional/tertiary qualifications and are seeking professional, administrative, executive or managerial jobs, or those who are entrepreneurs or investors. A P1 Pass is issued if your basic monthly income is more than $7,000 you are issued a P2 Pass; if your basic monthly salary is between $3,500 and $7,000.

Your spouse and dependent children below 21 years may accompany you on Dependant's Passes. Your aged parents and parents-in-law may also accompany you on Long Term Social Visit Passes.

Employment Pass Q

A Q1 Pass is issued if your basic monthly income is more than $2,000 and you satisfy the stipulated educational criterion. A Q2 Pass is issued on exceptional grounds only.

Note

Before you take up a job, it would be advisable for you to visit Singapore to explore your employment options. While you will not be able to work on a Social Visit Pass, but you can take the opportunity to attend job interviews and check out potential employers.
