designed for advanced speakers of Spanish from a variety of disciplines who
are interested in participating in Cuban life and learning more about this

and in the community, for students to interact with Cubans and live in a

students. Setting Description: Established in 1728, the Universidad de La
Habana is one of the oldest universities in the Americas. The nationally
renowned institute, Centro de Estudios sobre Estados Unidos, or CESEU, was
founded at the Faculty of the Humanities at the Universidad de La Habana in
the 1970s by an academic research group called the "Grupo de Estudios
sobre Estados Unidos" (GEEU). The CESEU is the only center of its kind
in Cuba and the only institution within the Cuban higher education system
dedicated to the research of economics, society and politics of North
America and its foreign policy. Program Value: The Council fees include tuition, housing, breakfast,

and American - that form Cuba. Take classes from native Cuban faculty at the
Universidad de La Habana and participate in an array of cultural activities
and study trips designed to encourage direct interaction with the Cuban
people. Students are lodged in hotels. Earn up to 16 credits. Program
licensed by the U.S. Government and sponsored by Willamette University. Curriculum Highlights: CC-CS and the Facultad de Artes y Letras
(Liberal Arts College) of the University of Havana offer students a special
selection of courses in Spanish language, Cuban Literature, history,
government, sociology and the arts. These courses have been specially
designed to focus on themes and issues that address the particular needs of
American students. Cultural visits are arranged in Havana along with field
trips to: Matanzas Province & Varadero Beach; Pinar del Río;
Hemingway’s ranch/museum; Museum of the Revolution and more. Students who
speak and understand Spanish at an advanced level may take one or two
regular-session classes with Cuban students at the University of Havana.
This option is available only to qualified students who are able to pass an
advanced-placement exam given upon arrival in Havana. Setting Description: Experience the Caribbean walking along the Malecón
seafront or buy local art at the open market in old Havana. Ride in a
1930’s era taxi to have a Mojito cocktail at the Bodeguita del Medio, one
of Hemingway’s favorite hangouts. Tropical, sunny and lively, Havana’s
jazz and salsa clubs are never far away. CC-CS led study tours are included
at no extra cost. Program Value: An incredible opportunity to experience the real Cuba.
Talk to locals, meet young writers and filmmakers and tour Cuba with a fully
licensed educational program with experience in Havana since 1997. CC-CS
offers the chance to form your own opinion of Cuba and it's people.

examines Cuba's unique cultural heritage, the formation of Cuban identity,
and the centuries-old struggle for independence and autonomy. Curriculum Highlights: Intensive Language Study: Spanish; Culture,
Identity, and Community Seminar: Cultural and Political History of
Contemporary Cuba, Cultural Expression and Cuban Identity, Community,
Organizations and the Structure of Cuban Society, Cultural Anthropology of
Identity and Community, and Educational Excursions; Field Study Seminar; and
Independent Study Project. (16 credits in total) Up to 8 weeks in guest
residences in Havana, conditions permitting. Other accommodations may
include student dormitories and small hotels. The program includes several
excursions within and around Havana to agricultural cooperatives, rural
communities, work sites, and areas of historical and literary significance. Setting Description: SIT is authorized to provide educational travel
opportunities to US citizens as permitted by the US Treasury. Participants
will be advised of up-to-date US government restrictions on travel and
recreational activities while in Cuba. Program Value: Fees include international airfare, health insurance,
tuition, full room and board, excursions, and other direct program expenses.
Participants pay for domestic travel to the point of departure from the USA.

the Universidad de La Habana in which U.S. students are directly enrolled in
regular university classes with Cuban students. Curriculum Highlights: The Universidad de La Habana gives students
the opportunity enroll in regular semester courses. Students also live in
regular university housing along with both Cuban and other international
students. Setting Description: The Universidad de La Habana is the largest and
oldest university in Cuba. It has approximately 6,000 degree students and
has a high academic reputation in many parts of the world.
