understanding of Africa and Africans in the Diaspora, based on the belief
that one can truly enter another culture only by living and working in it.
Called the "progenitor of the Peace Corps" by President John F.
Kennedy, Operation Crossroads Africa in the last 43 summers has sent over
10,000 persons to 35 African countries, 12 Caribbean countries and Brazil to
lend their time and talents and to build friendship. Curriculum Highlights: The Crossroads summer consists of three
orientation days in New York City, six work weeks on a rural project, and
one travel week in the host country. We are also introducing a semester long
program to Namibia called Pamwe Namibia. Setting Description: This summer Crossroads will send volunteer
groups to eight African countries and Brazil. Our semester program will be
going to Namibia in September and January. Program Value: The program fee covers all program expenses (including
round trip airfare) from the time you arrive at orientation until you return
to New York City from Africa or Brazil.
