Development and Conservation: Panama serves as a crucial link between North, Central, and South America - both politically and economically. This program examines the development and possible expansion of the Canal and the work on protecting the area's unique ecosystems.
Curriculum Highlights: Intensive Language Study: Spanish; Development and Conservation Seminar: History and Environmental Issues in Panama, Tropical Ecology, Coral Reef Ecology and Conservation, Sustainable Development, and Educational Excursions; Environmental Field Study Seminar; and Independent Study Project. (16 credits in total) 3 weeks homestay in the Canal Zone or Panama City area. The program includes field trips to Barro Colorado Island, Bocas del Toro, Darien Province Rain Forest, Baru Volcano, and San Blas.
Program Value: Fees include international airfare, health insurance, tuition, full room and board, excursions, and other direct program expenses. Participants pay for domestic travel to the point of departure from the USA.
