the world's most remote habitats, including the constellation of over 20
island nations that make up the distinct cultural zones of Micronesia,
Melanesia, and Polynesia. This program examines the economic development,
nation building, and cultural cohesion in these isolated islands of Oceania. Curriculum Highlights: Intensive Language Study: Samoan; Pacific
Islands Studies Seminar: History and Politics, Geography and Economics,
Cultural Anthropology, Arts and Humanities, and Educational Excursions;
Field Study Seminar; and Independent Study Project. (16 credits in total) 2
weeks in a village homestay on 'Upolu, plus shorter stays on Savai'i and
Fiji and in the Apia urban area. The program includes field trips on the
islands of 'Upolu, Savai'i, and Manono, as well as a 10-day study trip to
American Samoa and/or Fiji (conditions permitting). Setting Description: Your program is based in Samoa, a cradle of
Polynesian tradition and the first of the Pacific Island nations to regain
independence after World War II. Program Value: Fees include international airfare, health insurance,
tuition, full room and board, excursions, and other direct program expenses.
Participants pay for domestic travel to the point of departure from the USA.

field-based program offering a total exploration of the Hawaiian Islands;
past and present, Nature and culture. Our expert instructors will lead you
through the gamut of topics affecting the islands, and our unique internship
component will allow you to give something back for all that you will have
gained. Curriculum Highlights: With expert guides, instructors, and
lecturers, learn first-hand the intrerplay between science and native
Hawaiian religion that informs our look into the volcanic processes ongoing
at Kilauea, explore cross-cultural constructs of wilderness, witness the
intricacy of coral reef ecosystems, etc. Following your month-long
internship, your off to the garden island of Kauai, where you'll share your
internship experiences with fellow participants, debate land management
issues, visit archaeological sites, assist efforts to preserve endemic bird
species, and consider the complex issue of Hawaiian sovereignty with native
guest lecturers. Setting Description: Begin at Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii's Big
Island (site of the world's most active volcano), continue along the Puna
coast, onto the Kona coast for a focus on reef ecology, and finishing at the
spectacular Waimanu Valley (boasting impressive sea-cliffs and cascading
waterfalls). Following your month-long internship, continue with the group
on Kauai (the Garden Island) where you'll experience the beauty of Polihale
State Park, Hanalei, and finally Kokee State Park (2,500 ft. elev.). Program Value: What makes this program truly unique are the
