Natural and Cultural Ecology: This interdisciplinary program examines the unique cultural and natural environments of Queensland through lectures on aboriginal traditions, nonwestern worldview, and contemporary social issues, as well as educational activities inlcuding snorkeling on the Norman Reef, field observation on Lizard Island, and a vertical transect of the Curtain Fig State Rain Forest.
Curriculum Highlights: Marine Ecology; Rain Forest Ecology; Ethnic Studies; Environmental Philosophy; Educational Excursions; Environmental Field Study Seminar, and Independent Study Project. (16 credits in total) Two weeks homestay in Cairns. Educational excursions include extensive field excursions to the Great Barrier Reef, the wet tropics lowland rain forest, the Atherton Tablelands, and Brisbane.
Program Value: Fees include international airfare, health insurance, tuition, full room and board, excursions, and other direct program expenses. Participants pay for domestic travel to the point of departure from the USA.
