Terrorism in Punjab

In this incident, the terrorists came posing like policemen and killed seven innocent people of a housing complex near Jandiala, Amritsar (District Majitha). It was the night of March 26, 1992. At aroundPunjab Trauma7b.jpg (15526 bytes) midnight, about eight terrorists wearing police uniform came to this area. At gun point they asked members of three families to come in the open. When they gathered there, the terrorists started firing on them indiscriminately with sophisticated weapons. It was on May 2, 1992. A peak summer night. At around 2 A.M., at village Kakrabad (Kathu Nangal, Amritsar) about a dozen terrorists carrying sophisticated guns came to this viilage. Obviously, people were fast asleep. Terrorists had the 'courtesy' not to kill the sleeping souls. They asked the people to get up. At gun point, the innocent souls were asked to stand in a row. The merciless killers stood in front of them. And, like soft targets started firing on the people who were half asleep at that time. As luck would have it, one of the persons who was standing in the queue, managed to escape and complained to the police.

 

 

Train massacre

June 15, 1991 is considered to be the blackest day in the history of Punjab terrorism, when militants gunned down 82 passengers in two different trains at Baddowal and Quila Raipur, near Ludhiana. As many as 50 innocent people were killed and 30 injured in thePunjab Trauma9b.jpg (36790 bytes) Baddowal shoot-out. At about 9:45 PM, the militants pulled the chain and brought the train to a halt. They entered different compartments and started spraying bullets on the passengers. In the second incident at Quila Raipur, the militants after boarding the train at 10:15 PM, picked out certain passenger on the pretext of kidnapping them. Ludhiana Train Shoot Out

Subsequent to the deployment of army in Punjab to maintain law and order, the militants got disturbed. In a desperate move, they started hitting the innocent people with more intensity. This is one such incident, in which they killed as many as 60 train passengers and injured 30 others. It was December 26,1991, a peak winter day. Already dark at around 6:30 P.M. When the Ludhiana-Ferozepur passenger train reached Chowki Maan railway station near Ludhiana, the militants entered into the compartments. The passengers were scared. But who will listen to their plea for mercy? The terrorists started firing on them from a point blank range. Before the security forces could reach the spot, the terrorist managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

 

Cold-blooded killings in Jagraon

March 24, 1993 was the doomsday for seven innocent souls of Jagraon, a town situated near Ludhiana City. At around 8.30 P.M., three terrorists armed with sophisticated weapons entered the house of one Vinod Kumar, Killed him. God knows, why.The assailants didn't spare even his relatives who were present in the house at that time.One of the nephews of Vinod Kumar was killed, another nephew and a sister-in-law got seriously injured in the shoot-out. But that did not quench the draconian thirst of the killers. To make good their escape, their guns indiscriminately took the lives of seven more passers-by who came in their way, in the busy street No. 2 of Jagraon's Shastri Nagar. The poor victims did not know that it was the last stroll for them.
