Terrorism in Punjab

Workers murdered in the vehicle

The death actually fell from the hell for three innocent duty workers who were returning to their homes in a vehicle on April 28, 1992 at around 9.30 PM. When their vehicle was passing through village Pabbian, an indiscriminate firing started from a roof top, killing all the workers and four more passers-by. Three other persons also got seriously injured in the shoot out. Only the terrorists involved in the killings can tell the motive behind this barbarian act which ostensibly had no rhyme or reason. Probably terrorists in their modness were waiting for any passing vehicle to kill the passengers. Using vantage point of roof of a building for firing into the vehicle in cold blood was extremely traumatic for the society at large.

Physician with staff killed

Dr. Bachitar Singh was an eminent physician and the Director of Punjab's Health Department. The wild killers did not spare even such a saviour. On October 26, 1991, Dr. Singh and some other officials of the Health Department were coming in two cars from Gurdwara Mehtiana Sahib. When their cars reached near Manuke at about 10.45 AM., half a dozen terrorists ambushed them. The terrorists bullets took the lives of Dr. Singh and six more officials of the Health Department.

Play ground killing in Ludhiana

Daresi Ground is a meeting place-cum-play ground in Ludhiana . It is generally crowded as people from all walks of life gather there, besides kids who come there for playing. It was a normal evening at Daresi Ground, before the terror struck on March 28, 1986. An eye witness' account states that three persons came there on a motor cycle, and two more came on a scooter. All of them were armed with automatic weapons. Before the common people could realise what was going to happen, the five killers started firing indiscriminately. Eleven innocent people were killed and fifteen others were injured in the shoot out, which is commonly known as "Daresi Ground Shoot-Out"

Ninteen fell prey

It was a case of a cold-blooled murder at Field Ganj, Ludhiana when 19 innocent people fell prey to the bullets of wild terrorists. On March 18, 1992, the area was humming with usual activity when three terrorists armed with automatic rifles came on foot. They, without any provocation started firing on the innocent people. Ninteen people died. This was the begining of a series of shoot-outs and blasts between March and August, 1992 within a radius of 60 KM from Ludhiana. In 12 incidents more then 70 unsuspecting civilians lost their lives in sudden attacks by the terrorists in public places.
