Tent house shoot-out
On July
14,1990, four terrorists came at a tent house in Sadar Batala. They
were armed with AK-47 rifles. It was 11.30 P.M. The staff of the
tent house was about to close the shop. However, the terrorists gave
them no time to do so. They started firing on them from a point-
blank range. Five persons lost their lives in the incident.
Explosion
in Ludhiana
Sh.Tiwana, a Senior Police officer was killed while he was on way to
a social function with his daughter and wife.
In this incident, three Improvised Explosive Devices were planted in
hollow cement pipe-pillars on the side of the road. These pillars
having 30 cms, internal diameter and 60 cm height were a regular
fixture on road side to show culverts etc. While the vehicle was
passing in front of the area covered by explosive devices, 3 I.E.Ds
planted over a stretch of 30 meters exploded simultaneously. These
were blasted through a lead wire and batteries.
The blasts had devastating effect in which the Supdt. of Police, his
daughter and one gunman died on the spot and two persons including
his wife were seriously injured. In another car passing that spot at
the same time, one person died and another was seriously injured.
Both the cars were badly damaged.
This was a sophisticated multiple blast arrangement on a road
carried out by Punjab terrorists.
The purpose of such incidents was to create a reign of terror. While
targetting unarmed police officer with family during road travelling.
Blast to
kill the officer
On April 16,
1992 while Senior Superintendent of Police Faridkot, Punjab, was on
his way to Chandigarh, about 80 Kms short of Chandigarh there was a
heavy blast attempting to kill the SSP. Since the officer was
travelling in a bullet- proof car, his life got saved. In fact, four
explosive devices had been planted along the road out of which only
two had exploded. As per media reports, these devices were
directional improvised mines with approximately 4 Kg. high
explosives each. This was a sophisticated device with directional
explosive charge for maximum damage in the intended area. Detonation
was through wire and battery mechanism.
Such highly sophisticated directional charge explosive devices
require in depth technical knowhow apparently attained by Punjab
militants. However, had the blast been against a normal vehicle,
instead of an armoured car, the car and occupants would have been
blown to pieces.
This was one of the innumerable attempts on lives of Senior Police
and civil officers in Punjab.
Vehicle
blast in Tarn Taran
On July 10,
1991, a Police patrol vehicle was blown up near village Lalpur in
Tarn Taran area of Punjab at about 11 P.M. The blast severly damaged
the light commercial vehicle and in this incident, 3 Police
personnel died and 7 others were seriously injured.
Examination of the scene of crime and the explosion residues lead to
the conclusion that the terrorists had used about 2 Kgs. of RDX
which resultantly produced a crater of about 10 feet diameter with 4
feet depth.
A horrifying feature of this incident was the fact that another
group of militants had laid an ambush on a Police Post where firing
was going on for hours. This vehicle was rushing additional force
which was trapped with well calculated move through an intricate
system of trip wire/mouse trap in conjunction with batteries and
wires.
Mindless violence and brutality was purposely commited repeatedly by
Punjab terorists to attempt demoralisation in security and police
cadres. However, the discipline, nationalism and sense of duty in
forces in Punjab did not succumb.
