Chutki
This is a type of castanet and perhaps one of
the oldest instruments known to humanity. Unlike the Spanish
castanets which are attached to the thumb and first two
fingers, the chutki, two Pieces of wood, metal or stone, are
held lightly between the thumb and index finger and between
the index and middle finger. The pieces are struck by
dexterous movements of the hand producing a clicking sound.
Chutkis are rarely ornamented but sometimes one sees a pair
tied together with a silken cord ending in tassels.
