Kadae/Suthra/Shahi Danda

Kadae

Several metal bangles, kadae, gradually increasing in size from the wrist to the arm of the wearer, and a stick or rod 30 to 35 cm long constitute this instrument, long associated with the Sufis. The stick is held in the same hand as the bangles and struck against the bangles in time to the beat of a chant or song. The tone varies according to the material and diameter of the kadae Several contemporary folk singers, particularly the singers of Sufiana Qalam, use this plain and simple accompaniment.
