Kanjari
This is a shallow, one-sided drum, round or
sometimes octagonal, 18 to 28 centimetres in diameter and set
with rattling discs around the rim-in essence a tambourine.
Traditional motifs in ochre and green may be painted on the
head and ribbons and tassels may adorn the rim. The kanjari
probably came from Persia. It accompanies the singing of
Heer-Ranjha, Sohni-Mahiwaal, Sassi-Punnu and other kissas as
well as giddha and bhangra dances.
